Symbolism

Shield.  Dark blue and golden yellow are the colors traditionally associated with the Navy.  Red depicts valor and victory.  The gear wheel with five teeth alludes to the USS MOBILE being the fifth ship to carry the MOBILE name.  It further exemplifies the crew members who run the ship, cooperating and working in unison to accomplish the mission.  The stars refer to the eleven Battle Stars the previous USS MOBILE (CL 36) earned for her service in World War II.  The anchor suggests the unit’s dedication and strength, while its golden color denotes honor and excellence.

Crest.  The naval crown is a heraldic nautical symbol, alluding to the USS MOBILE, its sailors, and its mission to the United States Navy.  On top of the crown are three fleurs-de-lis, signifying life, light and perfection.  The heraldic flower is typically associated with European royalty and refers to the city of Mobile, which was founded in 1702 by the French, then later colonized by Britain and Spain.  The two white sails bearing a red saltire cross suggest the Alabama state flag, where the City of Mobile is located.  Emitting below the crown is a blue stylized mantle resembling the rough ocean waves.

Supporters.  The crossed Navy Officer’s sword and Navy CPO’s cutlass symbolize the teamwork and cooperation demonstrated by the naval team of USS MOBILE.

Seal.  The coat of arms as blazoned in full color on a white oblong disc within a dark blue designation band, edged with a gold roped border and bearing the name “USS MOBILE” at the top and “LCS 26” at the base.
